I'm not sure, but I may find something as I continue with my reading. I just read this lovely book for the first time too, as it's the July read-along over at the Midnight Garden www. You might want to join us there on July 25 for the discussion! Thanks for the heads-up, Lory! I found your lovely blog through your comment on Classical Carousel and, through your blog, Midnight Garden's read-along. What a coincidence! I'm so glad to find two other people who love children's books as well! I'll try to join the discussion but I'll be away at that time with limited internet access, so I'll have to see if it works then.

In any case, I'll be so interested in what everyone else has to say. Though the readalong may be most active on that particular day it will still be available to view afterwards, and you can certainly comment later if you want. This discussion from the MG bloggers is always interesting to read and they are very good about responding to comments.

Nice to meet you in any case, and I look forward to your future classic picks. I remember this book from my childhood but now I want to read it again. As an illustrator myself I appreciate the perfectness of Helen Johns' precious illustrations. No part of this excerpt may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the publisher.

This book is so good!

I really like that the chapters are usually from the different people's point of view. I am also getting the rest of the series because I want to find out what will happen next!

Review by Abbie

I love this book because I love reading about people who lived a long time ago because I like to see how they lived and how it is different from the way we live. The first book, All of a Kind Family, was very high in learning the importance of friendship and in laughs. It was also very touching.

I recommend this book for everyone who sees it. I recommend this book to all people who like to laugh and enjoy a family book of adventure and more. In a twist of the plot, a Jewish family is about to celebrate Yom Kippur and Hanukkah when they go to a wedding.

Common Sense says

During the wedding, the boy almost gets killed! Miraculously, a girl saves him.

If you would like to know more about Jewish life in America in the 's, this is the book for you! Like Abbie's video? Leave a comment on her blog post! The stories were based on Sydney's own childhood, growing up with four sisters and three brothers in the Lower East Side of New York City.

Sydney was a singer, dancer, and actor, but she was most known for her books, which were read and loved not just by Jewish children, but by children all over America, who were introduced through her characters to the beautiful customs of Judaism. She is really the "mother" of Jewish kids' books, and she even has a children's Jewish book award named for her. Sign Up Members Sign In. Story Central. My Profile. Back to Story Central.
